Phase II

We have been extremely busy with our make-over project. Since we decided to do this a few weeks ago we have been working on one thing or another every night and weekend. One major obstacle has been the tremendous amount of rain we have been getting in Alabama. I am extremely grateful for the rain because it has saved my big, country yard this year and kept us from dragging the sprinklers from spot to spot. After the drought we suffered last year and two seasons worth of dragging the sprinkler's, I was just about to beg Michael to install a sprinkler system when God answered his prayers and brought the rain. But, because of this answered prayer our progress has been slow.

Michael decided to build our new entertainment center himself because most of the ones we priced were around $1400.00. We knew he could build it for a much better price and he would get the satisfaction of doing the job himself as a bonus. He should probably be doing something like this for a living because he is such a craftsman. I can only imagine the work he could turn out if he had a wood shop stocked with some great tools.

While he did that I worked on the side pieces to our old entertainment center. We decided to keep and refurbish these pieces and use them like a curio in the new living room. They are now a dark walnut finish. I wanted the piece to have an old world look so I hand distressed it with a few of Michael's tools. I have to say I was hesitant to bang up something I had worked on so hard. Logic says "NO", but creativity says "Go for it". It was like when you are a kid and you are about to do something you know you shouldn't do, so you look around over both shoulders to make sure no one is watching and you do the thing real quick. That is exactly how I felt and I think I even screamed a little.

I'll have some before and after pics in some of my later posts. It is difficult to keep up with the blog with this amount of construction going on, plus all of electronics ore being replaced so internet has been down also.
